Welcome to the Dual Control Driving School website. Learning to drive is a difficult process, but I can make it easier! I believe in teaching you safer driving for life, not just to pass your test.

Dual Control is a West Cornwall based driving school, covering St Ives, Carbis Bay, Hayle, Penzance, Camborne, Redruth and all surrounding areas. I am a qualified, patient, DSA approved registered ADI and welcome learner drivers of all ages and abilities, from complete beginners to students requiring a refresher course after some time away from driving. I also offer intensive courses and residential courses. For further information on lessons and the relevant prices, please see the lesson and prices pages. You can book a lesson 7 days a week.

Theory Test

The theory test is the first step in learning to drive . The aim of the theory test is to make sure you understand the rules and safety points of driving. You should prepare as much as possible before you sit the test, as you will not be able to take your practical test until you have passed.

You will have 57 minutes to complete the 50 multiple choice questions followed by the hazard perception (or awareness) test consisting of 14 video clips.

You must pass both parts of the test to pass.  I will be happy to give you as much help as is required to prepare for your theory test.

You can practice on line on the DSA website at this link:

Practical Test

Your driving test will start with an eyesight check and some vehicle safety questions. You will then start your practical driving test which will include some specific manoeuvres.

The driving part of your test will last about 40 minutes. Throughout the test your examiner will be looking for an overall safe standard of driving, including when you are carrying out the set exercises. You can make up to 15 driving faults and still pass the test (16 or more results in failure). However, if you commit one serious or dangerous fault you will fail the test.

You can book your theory and practical tests online at:
